Stanna
Noah uses the Swedish verb Stanna which means Stay for Stop, Wait and Stay of course. It is effective for him to express his wishes, but I wonder how he snapped up the verb Stanna as opposed to Stopp which means Stop that is more commonly used by children here. Stanna to me is softer, kinder and milder. Is his choice of word speaking wavelengths about his character? He is kind and mild in his temperament.
I met my coach today, which is trilingual. Though he told me he was raised monolingual, as in one mother tongue, because his parents (Swedish and German) believed that bilingualism and beyond would likely discount the effectiveness of language. I was raised bilingual and I am onboard with his parents for I neither excel in English nor Chinese. This is why I chose to speak mainly Swedish to Noah until the age of 2. Soon he will be 3, and therefore it is time to switch back to multilingualism.
Arrested has been the keyword for that last month. Arrested caries that is. This is a significant milestone to all our fight/ struggle since Noah has bleeding and infection (low grade fever) back in summer. We have been stressed out by our bad parenting, missing out on dental care as an important aspect or childcare. Guilt and blame still eat at us today. Stockholm's dental care system of calling toddlers in for their first dental visit at age 3 has also failed us. Some other states call for first dental appointment at age 2. To move from the blame game, we thank God that we managed to work out a SDF or Silver Diamine Fluoride treatment for Noah last week during our Singapore visit. It is an age-old technique, but somewhat controversial likely because of the aesthetically staining side effect.
Incidentally, the Swedish verb for caries to be arrested would be avstannad (kariesaktiviteten är avstannad). This lead me to think that Noah is more aware than we can possibly imagine. Toddler wisdom is another league of its own.
