First noel

First Christmas for baby Noah, age zero. Missing the loved ones that passed on, and also missing the loved ones living that we cannot spend time with. All in all a calm Christmas, and Noah has a calm spirit.

Being with Mingmin and families really means a lot to us. Like Joakim said, they are the closest thing to family we got in this part of the world. They are like a mirror image of our cousins' families in Helsinki Finland, both large in numbers/ offspring and loving towards one another. Noah fits well with his cousins. Snapchat avatar photos are impressive and hilarious.

On the taxi ride back home, I gave him his multipurpose Christmas gift - a lavender scented sachet with Christmasy owl motif in green and red. It can relax him and help him sleep well (and keep mossies away), I thought. And it also a small pillow he can hold and fiddle with, the size of his palm. Last but not least, strung with a bright green ribbon, it is the perfect Christmas tree bauble. Baubles make great Christmas first gifts apparently. My chosen first gift to Noah reminded me mostly about the endearing ancient Chinese cultural traditions of giving away scented sachets or xiang nang as a token of love.

We have much to be thankful for! The safe birthing of Eujin's and Lauryn's twins Aiden and Abigail on the 23rd being the greatest highlight/ event. Barbro safely transferred to Ekbacken for observations and recovery from his fall. Kurt and Philip still with fairly good health. Noah growth and milestones. Jolly shandy, Dom Bénédictine liqueur and gifts.

Talking about milestones, Noah started yesterday to "clap" his hands. I do not think he knows he is clapping his hands, for it is likely just a natural shift from knocking his hands with closed fists or fist, and now with two opened fists. Joakim's first Christmas gifts to Noah included a tambourine which is superb considering this "clapping" milestone development. To top off the "clapping" milestone, there is also the shaking of the head from side to side. Any motoric milestones observed will carry through to nursing time too, thus imagine having tit in mouth and shaking head. It is hilarious, either ways, when he shakes his head for no rhyme or reason; or when he does it when he breastfeeds.

Before starting on our simple "ta bao" or doggybagged home Christmas dinner from one of our many neighbourhood Zi Char stall, Joakim uphold the Bergenwall trandition of reading the "Julevangeliet" or gospel about the birth of Jesus, reminding amongst ourselves the very reason why we are celebrating Christmas. Heading to bed with Noah, I whispered, "God bless you, Jesus loves you and Holy Sprit be with you.". This is my prayer mantra to Noah ever since he came to be.

From Cornish "The First Noel", which titles this blog, let's end with Nobel prize winner Bob Dylan singing "Mr Tambourine Man" for us this calm boxing day where we rest and suppress our turbulent "jingle jangle" emotions for a day or two more please.
Hey! Mr. Tambourine man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey! Mr. Tambourine man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you
And take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind
Down the foggy ruins of time
Far past the frozen leaves
The haunted frightened trees
Out to the windy beach
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky
With one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea
Circled by the circus sands
With all memory and fate
Driven deep beneath the waves
Let me forget about today until tomorrow
