Wimps and screams

Wimps are simply adorable and make hearts melt; but screams on the other hand are just piercing, attention grabbing in a bad way, irritating and makes everyone agitated and fidgety. Therese showed Thina and I a video about Priscilla Dunstan deciphering and classifying baby screams into 5 categories. Sounds by far all too perfect if this was really the case.

Joakim and I have a theory however, that screams are contagious. Noah is at most times a calm baby. But when we observe him in screamy nursing rooms (especially on crowded weekends), or when there are other screaming children and babies around, we can only be more convinced about our Scream Contagion Theory.

Some non-verbal and still audible baby manners are very intimately known by nursing mothers. Adding on to Kelly Mom's list of manners, Noah has legs banging, pillow tossing, fabric grabbing and scratching, nipple lashing and twisting etc. while breastfeeding. It started with breast scratching to grabbing, strumming, slapping or knocking, and now the worst of the lot - pinching! The one manner to curtail is without a doubt pinching - simply because "Ouch" it hurts bad, and it makes mummy's breasts turn blue and yellow.

So much for "Stay Calm and Baby On" mantra. Thankfully other baby manners such as nipple grunting, unlike the above undesirable manners, can be mind-soothing. And it has to be said too, that now at the 6-month mark, Noah's #milkdrunk smiles are becoming a rarity. Moments I can still catch them, just before he goes into deeper sleep modes, are the purest form of joy and blessing.
